Untitled (spider) 2005

This is the last piece I completed at SJSU before starting work on Unauthorized Art in Humboldt.

It is a polished aluminum black widow spider, about seven feet long.

These are in progress images, as I didn't really get a chance to shoot it after I completed it.

It is essentially an anotomically correct Latrodectus Mactans (black widow, or redback) except for the hair, and abdomen markings.

Instead of the familiar red hourglass on its belly, this spider has a luminescent green dollar sign on its back.

(The piece is not really about spiders at all, but is based on the irrational fears we all live with.)
